It’s So Amazing!
Harris, R. (1999). It’s so amazing!. Boston, MA: Candlewick Press.
The author cleverly uses the classic bird and bee to narrate how a baby is made. The lively text, humor and colorful illustration is appealing and catchy. This books captures the moment the egg and sperm connect, through pregnancy and finally birth. In between all of that, other related topics are discussed like love, sex, gender and family to name a few.
I’m on the fence about this book. I understand it should give children a healthy understanding of their bodies but I’m not sure this is the way to go about it. Some of the illustrations leave very little to the imagination. I would proceed with caution and in steps when introducing this book to any age, especially young children.
