George
Gino, A. (2015). George. NY:Scholastic Press.
George is a young boy who feels he is a girl trapped in his body. When the teacher informs the students that they will be putting on the play “Charlotte’s Web”, he is excited. The teacher informs him that he can not try out for the part of Charlotte because he is a boy. George and his best friend Kelly devise a plan to not only get the part of Charlotte but to become Melissa, the girl she has always been.
I recommend this book to middle and high school children. This is an excellent book for parents to share with a child that is struggling with their identity. Gino deliveres a profound message on how to be who you really are even through ridicule, self-doubt and acceptance.
